MAKING A LIVING SPACE

ATTENTION TO DETAIL is one of the series project of School House Studio in Abbotsford, Melbourne. The project sought to build a semi-private residential complex for a young furniture designer and the brief was to renovate a preliminary school hall into a living and working space that provides her a mini-showroom in her own private space. The site in surrounded by open space such as school garden, a spacious lane, and secondary street that give an extra access to the showroom. My final idea involved maximising space by taking out her personal furniture and creating new furniture that incorporated both living and storage space. As for her workspace, I kept it open and flat as the client likes to re-arrange her collections. In addition, small elements that highlight her simple, yet unique personality, including her interest in cooking and gardening, will provide the room with that extra detail .
